On July 28, a retirement service was held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Lawrence, MA for the Ven. Peter Gachathi, Archdeacon of Kenyan churches. It was a full house and many guests had to stand outside the doors and look in as the liturgy, Kenyan music, speeches and presentations all came together for a heartfelt and moving celebration, not only of Ven. Peter’s service but of the Kenyan Anglican community being built here in New England.
During the service, Ven. Peter was made an honorary Canon for the Anglican Diocese in New England and a representative of our diocese to the Church in Kenya, where he will be moving to this Fall, along with his wife, Nellie, to enjoy their retirement among friends and family. In a touching and coincidental moment, a letter from Kenyan Bishop Timothy Ranji of The Diocese of Mt. Kenya South was read that also declared Ven. Peter to be a Canon of Mt. Kenya South, along with Nellie as Lay Canon.
Please keep the Rev. Canon Peter Gachathi, and Canon Nellie and their family in your prayers as they transition into retirement.
