Prayer at Abbey of the Way

On Saturday, September 22, the diocese was in prayer for the election of the new bishop. This occurred in person at the Abbey of the Way, the home of Fr. Len Cowan, our diocesan intercessor. The four who joined him in person were from around the diocese but were themselves joined by people praying remotely through video conferencing.

During their time together there was a sense of excitement over the outstanding quality of both candidates. Each man is uniquely qualified and especially gifted for the task at hand and either one would be a blessing to our life together as a diocese – there was some mention of how they wished both men could be bishops for New England! Whoever is elected, the region will be blessed and well-cared for. That increased the strong sense of confidence and joy for those praying as the diocese moves towards the election. The international connections our diocese has made over the years also came up, and the attendees prayed through the implications the election will have on our impact for the work of mission both inside our archdeaconries and in the Anglican world abroad.

As we move forward, Fr. Len shared that “one of the things we are looking for are intercessors from outside the diocese who will pray for the diocese during this process, especially during the upcoming walk-about.” Local parishes will be asked to find Christian friends of the church outside the ADNE, both Anglican and non-Anglican, who are willing to pray for what we are going through and support us in prayer. Please keep the walk-about in prayer, along with our candidates and their families as they go through the work of discernment along with us to find out who will be the next bishop of New England.
